NetFlow is supported primarily by Cisco routers and switches.
NetFlow allows you to analyze and monitor bandwidth and determine, for example, the amount of traffic generated by IP addresses, protocols or programs. To perform this analysis, routers are configured to send Flow protocol packets to a computer with the PRTG probe installed. Flow technology has minimal CPU load and is specifically adapted for networks with large amounts of data traffic.

RATING LISTS
By default, traffic monitored by the sensor is always divided in PRTG rating lists between primary recipients (bandwidth usage by IP address), primary connections (by connection), and primary protocols (by protocol). Ranking lists allow you to track data by category, which simplifies the analysis of traffic with NetFlow.

PRTG allows you to determine if your switches are not able to handle the amount of data that your backup solution is using. This fact is established before these switches are completely overloaded. If these switches are still overloaded during the backup, PRTG will allow you to quickly find the culprit of the situation.
