PRTG pre-configured for different cloud services: brief description of 10 PRTG sensors

PRTG SENSOR “HTTP CLOUD”
Do you use certain cloud computing services in various locations around the world? Then check the availability and operation of the service from your own location using our “HTTP Cloud” sensor. PRTG clouds are located in Asia, Europe and the United States. And you can determine the response time from anywhere in the world.

SENSOR “PING CLOUDS”
With the Ping Cloud sensor, the younger brother of our HTTP sensor, you can track the execution time of a PING request from anywhere in the world through our service. Servers are located in the following regions:

  • Asia Pacific: Tokyo
  • Western Europe: Ireland
  • U.S. East: Northern Virginia
  • U.S. West: Oregon
  • Amazon CloudWatch Sensor

AMAZON CLOUDWATCH MONITORING
Amazon CloudWatch is a popular monitoring service. PRTG is a good option for those who have several different Amazon accounts, who want to avoid having to constantly move from one account to another, and who would like to implement an independent local monitoring tool. PRTG receives data from each account and provides centralized access to it from a single dashboard.

PRTG offers the following sensors for Amazon CloudWatch:

  • The Amazon CloudWatch EBS sensor monitors the Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) cloud service.
  • The Amazon CloudWatch EC2 sensor monitors the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service.
  • The Amazon CloudWatch ElastiCache sensor monitors the Amazon ElastiCache cloud service.
  • The Amazon CloudWatch ELB sensor monitors the Amazon Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) cloud service.
  • The Amazon CloudWatch RDS sensor monitors amazon relational database service (RDS).
  • The Amazon CloudWatch SNS sensor monitors the amazon simple notification service (SNS).
  • The Amazon CloudWatch SQS sensor monitors amazon simple queue service (SQS).

MONITORING OF MAIL SERVERS
Companies use the services of various providers of e-mail services. If a system failure occurs, the it department head’s phone immediately starts to burst with calls, which is especially true when it comes to an email service. Life has proven how useful it is to set thresholds in order to receive warnings before a particular failure occurs. That’s what our mail server sensors are for!

VMWARE MONITORING
PAESSLER AG is a VMware Certified Technology Partner. We have developed a series of sensors for VMware. These include the VMWare Virtual Machine (SOAP) sensor and VMware Host Hardware (WBEM) sensors to monitor the operation of the ESX/ESXI server.

MICROSOFT ONEDRIVE MONITORING
OneDrive is a network attached storage from Microsoft. Our sensor for Microsoft OneDrive shows how much free space is available and immediately warns you about the threat of running out of storage space. To do this, we use the OneDrive API.

DROPBOX MONITORING
Dropbox is an extremely popular cloud storage service. A Dropbox Business subscription gives businesses significant storage space. Using the Dropbox API, PRTG conveniently displays the amount of available free storage space (in bytes and percentage).

GOOGLE ANALYTICS MONITORING
Google Analytics is a powerful tool for tracking and analyzing traffic on websites. The Google Analytics sensor accesses the Google API to collect the most important data. This allows you to instantly view information about unique users or views on the PRTG dashboard.

GOOGLE DRIVE MONITORING
Google Drive is a multifunctional cloud service of this search engine. This service works because office applications are gaining popularity, especially among companies with a flexible structure. The Google Drive sensor directly accesses the Google API and displays the amount of remaining storage space in bytes and percentages.

YOUR OWN CLOUD SENSOR!
Create a cloud sensor yourself that fits your needs. Then, configure the PRTG so that the system works effectively in the conditions that are specific to your environment.

Independent monitoring with PRTG is made for all cloud strategies

INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE (IAAS)

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE (SAAS)

SOFTWARE PLATFORM AS A SERVICE (PAAS)

Many companies are turning to cloud computing services in order to take advantage of the broad benefits of virtual servers.

Example: A content delivery network is created for an international Website and the content is stored locally on regional servers. Amazon Cloud, Microsoft Azure Cloud, or Google services are often used as content delivery networks.

Why, then, might independent monitoring be required? Although Amazon offers its own Cloudwatch solution, your IT department often has separate accounts for different services, or even from several different providers. When using PRTG, all accounts of all services are monitored together in one place. PRTG is a comprehensive cloud monitoring service and has a single dashboard, one look at which is enough to see all the operating readings.

Various specialized departments require certain software to work, which is increasingly offered only in the format of software as a service (SaaS solutions). What’s more, more and more companies are moving to services like Microsoft Office 365. Finally, many email services are also cloud-based solutions, and they are used almost everywhere.

Why, then, might independent monitoring be required? As with IaaS, PRTG administrators have a comprehensive cloud monitoring service that is both easy to use and quickly configured to meet specific needs. PRTG has already developed and matched sensors suitable for a range of email and other programs such as Dropbox or Google services. These sensors are created automatically when prtg is installed. This allows administrators to get started with a ready-made and configured tool to monitor their IT systems in minutes.

There are several PaaS services that provide an environment for developers. Often, these services can be used without serious difficulties with administration and without the need to shell out astronomical amounts at a time to purchase them. What’s more, these services make the work of software developers easier. Therefore, it is not surprising that more and more companies are using modern PaaS services.

Why, then, might independent monitoring be required? First of all, programming is a very delicate job. Any system failure often results in significant recovery costs. Especially in cases where it is immediately unclear what the problem is. In PaaS? Or maybe it’s just the router not working as it should? Thanks to comprehensive monitoring, administrators can check everything at once.

How can the Cloud Ping sensor help?

Whether you’re using your own on-premises services or relying on global service providers, the Cloud Ping sensor can check the response time of your devices from different locations around the world.

Simply configure the sensor with a public target IP address or hostname. It will then ping this device from different locations in the PRTG cloud. These source locations include several sources in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. Along with the ping time from these individual locations, the sensor also includes an “Average Response Time” channel to provide you with an overall performance score.

The PRTG Cloud Ping sensor allows you to measure the response time of your Devices and Internet-related services from different locations around the world. It can also alert you if response times drop significantly, giving you the opportunity to take corrective action before your customers notice the presence of a problem.

Five Reasons to Choose PRTG as your Cloud Monitoring Tool

CREATE REVIEWS
Whether you use Amazon CloudWatch or other services. Using a separate and specialized monitoring tool for each cloud service is inconvenient. You have to log in and out of the system all the time, and you have to spend a lot of time mastering the tools and controls. PRTG offers administrators a quick view of all cloud services. This tool will immediately notify you when a specified threshold is exceeded. You set the thresholds, not the cloud service provider.

VARIOUS SAVINGS OPTIONS
The main argument in favor of using multiple cloud services is the cost-effectiveness of the approach. However, when system failures occur, the financial benefits quickly fade away, especially if the process of determining the cause of the failure is time-consuming and time-consuming. There may also be additional staff costs, and they can grow rapidly. PRTG provides an opportunity to fully realize the potential of savings when using a cloud strategy.

STRENGTHENING AUTONOMY
PRTG provides its own monitoring tool that adapts effectively to a specific IT system and is customizable in-house. This way, you have the security and ability to change your license individually to accommodate what new cloud services you’ll need to integrate into your infrastructure.

LESS DOUBT
In the IT departments and specialized departments of many companies, there are doubts about the use of cloud services. Often, these doubts are related to the risk of becoming overly dependent or due to potential system failures. The PRTG installation provides an independent monitoring tool and thus eliminates any doubts that may arise.

QUIETISM
PRTG sends a notification if the threshold value is exceeded, and only in this case. This means that there are no daily emails about the status of the system informing you that everything is fine (unless, of course, you enable this feature purposefully). To see that everything is normal, you just need to glide your eyes over the dashboard. Administrators can safely do their job, knowing that in case of danger, they will know about it immediately from the notification.
