Having specific device templates helps you quickly and easily integrate PRTG Network Monitor into your infrastructure.
This is provided to us by our “sensors” – the points of measurement of certain aspects of the device. Thus, PRTG can monitor every parameter of the virtual environment. VMware currently has the following sensors:

VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINE (SOAP) SENSOR
Monitor a virtual machine on a VMWare host server using SOAP. This sensor displays CPU usage and memory usage, disk read and write speeds, and network transfer rates for a single virtual machine.

VMWARE HOST HARDWARE (WBEM) SENSOR
VMware Host Hardware PRTG sensors enable you to monitor ESX/ESXi servers. This sensor displays the primary server temperature, current power consumption, fan speed, battery voltage, and operating status.

VMWARE HOST HARDWARE STATUS (SOAP) SENSOR
The VMware Host Hardware Status PRTG monitors the status of the host’s computing system. This sensor displays the total number of objects in the “normal”, “warning” and “alarm” states in the same way as the vSphere client does.

VMWARE DATA WAREHOUSE (SOAP) SENSOR
The VMware Data Warehouse sensor monitors hard drive usage and data storage status.
